Summary:
The Security Officer position at the FAA post is responsible for providing security and to safeguard FAA employees, facilities, Government property and assets from loss, theft, damage, unauthorized use, criminal acts, espionage, sabotage and terrorism. Security Officers will conduct visitor and vehicle control and screening, monitor and respond to facility cameras and alarms from intrusion detection systems, perform magnetometer and X-Ray screening, and other duties as outlined in the Statement of Work.

Summary:
The Security Officer position at the FAA post is responsible for providing security and to safeguard FAA employees, facilities, Government property and assets from loss, theft, damage, unauthorized use, criminal acts, espionage, sabotage and terrorism. Security Officers will conduct visitor and vehicle control and screening, monitor and respond to facility cameras and alarms from intrusion detection systems, perform magnetometer and X-Ray screening, and other duties as outlined in the Statement of Work.
Job Responsibilities:
- Access Control-Provide courteous, timely service while maintaining control of all personnel and vehicles entering the facility in accordance with the local Facility Security Plan.
- Screening-Check hand carried items in possession of visitors, operating metal detectors/magnetometers to inspect visitors and deliveries, operate x-ray machine to inspect visitors’ packages, equipment and hand-carried articles, conduct vehicle inspections and conduct broader or more detailed screening as directed by the ATR in response to the security posture.
- Visitor Processing-Issue visitor badges to visitors.
- Patrol -conduct roving patrols, facility perimeter to detect unauthorized entry or other suspicious activities, inspect physical security safeguards, inspect facilities for hazards, ensure that all security equipment is activated and operating properly, closing and securing all open windows or doors, manually open and close heavy gates and doors, patrol locations in areas which are potentially hazardous to the public, observe the environment for suspicious vehicles or persons on Federal property, review maps, floor plans, diagrams to be familiar with facility and property boundaries,
- Response-evacuate individuals from dangerous and/or life threatening situations, guide and assist First Responders, administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), administer/deploy automatic external defibrillator (AED), assess the medical condition of injured individuals, perform basic first aid in response to emergencies.
- Control Operations-Provide written or verbal situation reports regarding security-related information (e.g. accidents, bomb threats, unlawful acts, characteristics of individuals).
- Inspections-buildings and grounds, vehicles, execute colors, traffic, parking and pedestrian control.
- Escort Services-May have to escort deliveries to the loading dock.
- Gate/Building Openings-must open/close gate (s) and building (s) within the time parameters as specified by the Facility Post Orders.
- Key/Access Control Cards/Combination Control-Must receive, secure, issue and account for all keys/access cards or combinations issued to them for access to buildings, offices, equipment, gates, etc.
- Screening of Vehicles, Visitors and Mail-Deny entry of unauthorized person (s), property or vehicles to area (s) defined in the Facility Post Orders.
- Temporary Badges-Issuance of temporary passes and temporary badges to Government employees, authorized visitors, issue appropriate identification badges to authorized visitors, and record required.
- Private Property-follow procedures for handling of private property (audio, video recording devices, cameras, etc.) prohibited on the facility unless authorized by the FM.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Applicants are required to have at least three (3) years of armed security experience. Candidates with military police, law enforcement, or corrections officer experience are preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possess or able to successfully obtain CPR, First Aid, Baton and OC spray certification, Handcuff and Defense Tactics and weapons qualification certifications.
- Be able to obtain an FAA Personal Identity Verification card (PIV).
- Successfully pass all Personnel and Industrial Security Requirements such as Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) fingerprint check and Office of Personnel Management National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) to be granted an interim suitability approval.
- Hold and maintain Security Guard status.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Associate Degree in a related field
- Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance
- Good working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a business environment and enforcement procedures.
- Demonstrated strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures
- Ability write and investigate required reports
- Ability to make independent and good judgment decisions utilizing the FAA Security Officer Manual and ADC LTD NM and customer policy and procedures
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Vision: Applicant must have binocular vision and must not test less than 20/30 (Snellen). An applicant who has undergone a Radial Keratomy or laser-correction procedure to correct his/her vision to an acceptable level is medically qualified for this position. Near vision, corrected or uncorrected, must be sufficient to read Jaeger Number 2 or equivalent type and size letter at a distance of no less than 12 inches on a standard Jaeger chart. Applicant must have normal color vision.
- Hearing: Applicant’s average hearing at 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hertz (Hz) must be less-than or equal-to 25 decibels. Applicant hearing at 4000 and 5000 Hz must be less-than or equal-to 45 decibels. If there is a difference in hearing between applicant’s ears (in excess of 15 decibels at 500-3000 Hz range or in excess of 30 decibels at 4000- 5000 Hz range), applicant must receive a test for sound localization. Applicant must not have ear disorders affecting equilibrium. Applicant may use a hearing aid.
- Speech: Applicant must be able to speak clearly and distinctly. Any disease or condition that significantly interferes with an applicant’s ability to speak is a disqualifying factor.
- Cardiovascular System: Any disease or condition that interferes with an applicant’s cardiovascular function and an individual’s safe and efficient job performance is a disqualifying factor. Applicant aerobic capacity is a minimum of 9 MET or 31. 5 ml/kg min V02 Max.
- Chest and Respiratory System: Applicant must have a healthy respiratory system and receive an evaluation and clearance for use of disposable particulate respirators meeting N95 standards as established by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Any disease or condition that interferes with respiratory function and an applicant’s safe and efficient job performance is a disqualifying factor.
- Gastrointestinal System: Applicant must have a healthy gastrointestinal tract. Any disease or condition that interferes with gastrointestinal function and an applicant’s safe and efficient job performance is a disqualifying factor.
- Genitourinary System: Applicant must have a healthy genitourinary system. Any disease or condition that interferes with genitourinary function and an applicant’s safe and efficient job performance is a disqualifying factor.
- Endocrine and Metabolic Systems: Any conditions affecting normal hormonal or metabolic functioning and response that is likely to adversely affect an applicant’s safe and efficient job performance is a disqualifying factor.
- Musculoskeletal System: Any condition that adversely impacts an applicant’s movement, agility, flexibility, strength, dexterity, coordination, or ability to accelerate, decelerate, or change directions, and that is likely to adversely affect an applicant’s safe and efficient performance of duties, is a disqualifying factor.
- Hematology System: Any hematological condition characterized as chronic, caused a hematological crisis, or adversely impacts an applicant’s safe and efficient performance of duties is a disqualifying factor. Such conditions may include anemia or thrombocytopenia.
- Neurological Systems: Any disease or condition that interferes with an applicant’s central or peripheral nervous system function and that is likely to adversely affect safe and efficient duties is a disqualifying factor. Any condition with the loss of motor skills, muscle strength, cognitive function, coordination, or gait, sensory loss (limb, hearing, or vision) tremor, pain or effect on speech is a disqualifying factor.
- Psychiatric Disorders: any disorder that affects an applicant’s judgement, cognitive function, or safe and efficient performance of essential job functions is a disqualifying factor.
- Dermatology: any disease or condition that may cause an applicant to be unduly susceptible to injury or disease as a consequence of environmental exposures which results in restricted functioning or movement and thereby impairs safe and efficient performance of essential job functions is a disqualifying factor.
- Medication: Applicant’s use of medications such as narcotics, sedative hypnotics, barbiturates, amphetamines, or any drug with potential for addiction, that is taken for extended periods of time (e.g. beyond 10 days), or is prescribed for a persistent or recurring underlying condition, is a disqualifying factor.
- Organ transplantation and prosthetic devices: Any transplantation or prosthetic devices that adversely affects an applicant’s ability to safely and efficiently perform essential job functions is a disqualifying factor.
- Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to twelve (12) hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime. Outdoor posts may require an individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, or severe weather (e.g., snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind).
- Frequent contact with general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center, requiring an ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations (e.g., confrontations with angry, distraught, disturbed, or violent persons).
- Ability to remain on post up to four (4) consecutive hours without sitting, ea t i n g , or relieving bladder or bowels.
- Ability to remain alert for up to twelve (12) hours, with ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations. Use of senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch) is necessary to discern unusual or dangerous situations.
- Ability to use post security equipment (metal detectors, X-rays, CCTV); ability to use handcuffs, baton, and firearm at any time while on duty.
- Ability to read post assignments, writes reports, and responds to both routine and emergency dispatches or orders.
- Ability to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis (e.g., provide emergency First Aid or resuscitation while waiting for arrival of paramedics or other emergencypersonnel).
- Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs (e.g., in responding to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, giving pursuit, etc.).
- Evening and Weekend Hours required.
- Position requires a security clearance.
- ADC is required by FAA to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain their security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than on citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
- Applicants offered employment with ADC are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
